New ‘Internet Service Provider' Company for Vodac
2007-04-13
Vodacom announced changes in the organisational structure of the Vodacom Group, with a new company which will focus on Vodacom’s WiMAX, ISP (Internet Service Provider) and VPN (Virtual Private Network) business.
Vodacom's Group CEO, Alan Knott-Craig, announced the changes in the organisational structure of the Vodacom Group, as well as several new appointments which are effective as from 1 April 2007.
“In response to the Electronic Communications Act, Vodacom has created a new company which will be a wholly owned subsidiary of the Vodacom Group (Pty) Ltd. This new entity will be responsible for all WiMAX, ISP (Internet Service Provider) and VPN (Virtual Private Network) business for Vodacom,” the mobile giant said.
Vodacom has up to now not had a specialist ISP to serve their customers, and this move may indicate that they will soon have a similar entity to MTN’s ISP, MTN-Network Solutions.
The new company began business operations on 1 April 2007 and the Managing Director will be appointed in due course. In the interim, Mr. Pieter Uys, current Chief Operations Officer for the Vodacom Group, will be acting as Managing Director.
Telkom heavies move over to new company
Telkom recently lost two of its most experienced executives, and both of them made their way to the new Vodacom company.
Mr. Wally Beelders has been appointed to the position of Executive Director: Commercial and will be reporting to the Managing Director of the new company.
Mr. Thami Msimango has been appointed as Chief Operations Officer and will also report to the MD.
Mr. Chris Volschenk, has been promoted to the position of Chief Financial Officer and as with the other two new appointees he has a direct line to the MD.
Says Alan Knott-Craig: "These appointments and organisational adjustments are highly strategic for Vodacom. As the Vodacom Group continues to grow, it is important that we remain a successful and sustainable business and that we are able to seize opportunities that are presented by Convergence."
